BarbWell, we finally made it to March, and the weather folks will tell us the worst part of winter is over because we’ve made it through December, January and February. But, sometimes March can be the nastiest month of all. If you ask me, there’s no good reason for the month of March! It’s still cold, windy, snowy, icy or wet, rainy and muddy. Why bother with a month that serves no purpose? March is just a tease to spring. OK, so I know that St. Patrick’s Day is in March, and then of course there’s March Madness in college basketball, but what else?

Why do we need the month of March?
I’m ready for warm weather and give up the snow, sleet, freezing rain and wind chills below zero.
I’m ready to pack away the boots, coats, scarves, mittens and hats for a good nine months.
I’m ready to stop shivering every time I walk out of the house.
I’m ready to stop scraping off my car windshield every time I go out.
I’m ready to stop hauling wood from the basement to the living room wood stove and to stop vacuuming all the little pieces of wood I drop each time I haul wood from the basement to the living room.
I’m ready to have my dry winter hands soft again and my chapped lips smooth again.
I’m ready to stop getting shocked every time I touch something because the air in the house is so dry and I seem to shoot sparks from my fingers every time I touch something.
I’m ready to put away my sweaters, turtlenecks and fuzzy warm socks.
I’m ready to stop making soups, stews and pot roasts and make room for BBQ ribs, potato salad and cole slaw.
I’m ready for daylight savings time, so when I leave in the morning it’ll be bright outside and when I come home in the evening it’s still light out.
I’m ready to give my car a good cleaning and know that in a few days it won’t be covered with salt and muck.
I’m ready to open my windows, and for that matter, clean my windows.
I’m ready to hang sheets on the clothes line and to put them right back on the bed so when I crawl in that night I can smell spring.
I’m ready to see green again; green grass and green leaves – even for dandelions to pop up on the lawn.
I’m ready to rake off winter from the lawn, clean up the flower beds and the veggie garden.
I’m ready to sit on the deck in the warm sun with a book and soak up some vitamin A, and to paint the trim on the house that I was supposed to do last year.
I’m ready for the boys of summer to start playing baseball again and go watch my nieces, Kira and McKenna, play T-ball.
I’m ready to clean the garage and finally have that yard sale I’ve been talking about for the past few years.
I’m ready to start making plans for summer vacation and get the camping gear out.
I’m ready to get the canoe in some water and paddle around a quiet pond and hear the frogs singing at night.

But, unfortunately we still have to make it through the 31 days of March before any of this can happen. Maybe March is meant to be my planning month, the month I sit down and decide all the chores I want to do outside.

From the list above it looks like I’ll have a very busy spring, but after being cooped up in the house for four months it’ll feel wonderful to be outside playing again. But first we need to get through March…..Happy Spring!
